We guess you are a patient and some or all of your teeth have been removed. If you are without teeth for less than five years, we recommend reading the pages on bone resorption or bone loss. This means that the bone is melting away, before and after the teeth are extracted. For patients, who have recently had their teeth extracted, this information will help you in your decision, why you should seriously consider getting MDI Mini Implants, before your bone structure is gone.

You may read the term "permanent" very often when you get information about dental implants in Germany. This term is not correct to any medical or dental device, because nothing in life, especially in medicine or in dentistry has a guarantee to last forever, even if we wish... "Long Term" might be better!
MDI mini implants are a long term method to fix a denture without a painful operation. This tiny implants are very popular worldwide. If there is not enough bone for regular implants, they are an affordable way for a safe and fixed solution.
Considering the costs of a mini dental implant, we can state that it is in general ¼ or 1/3 the costs of a standard dental rootform implant.
Mini implants are available in four diameters (1.8mm, 2.1mm, 2.4mm and 2.9mm). Each diameter comes in 4 lengths (10mm, 13mm, 15mm, and 18mm). The 2.9mm diameter mini is named a "Hybrid", because it is nearly the diameter of the smallest available rootform implant.
Implantation of Miniimplants is a real simple surgical procedure, as you can read on several websites worldwide. In the upper jaw Dentists are using Hybrids mostly because soft bone is more common than in the lower jaw.
Depending on the vertical bone, a German implant-surgeon will do the measurement after checking a panoramic x-ray or ct-scan. A shorter and thinner implant is being used if the bone is reduced by bone-loss. In general four mini implants are placed in the anterior portion of the lower jaw, six of them will be placed in the upper jaw.

Mini implants allow immediate loading. Most of the regular implants need more space in the bone and cannot be loaded with a crown or denture after implantation.
The result is that you can leave the practice on the same day of the surgery .
The only needed anesthetic is an local injection in the area, where the implant will be placed. Very often, your old lower denture can be fitted on the new mini- implants.
The advantage is that you can use the new or old denture immediately without having to wait for the three to six month comparing to standard implants.
The entire procedure only takes 90 minutes, which includes retrofitting the old denture and placing the implant). In general the surgery is painless and shows only a very small post operative discomfort.

Patients who have these implants can begin using their newly stabile denture right away, because as mentioned before these implants do not need a lot of time for healing and integration.
Our German CAD-G surgeon screws the tiny Titanium implants firmly through the gum into the bone. He will need no cuts.
As a result the integration process takes place immediately.
On a microscopic level the further integration shows to take place for months after having placed the implant. Last, no major incisions are needed for the procedure, so there are not many contra-indications to the surgery.
The surgeon decides case by case if there is a need for making an incision before placing a MDI mini implant. The critical factor is the shape of the remaining bony ridge, which will be determined by x-ray.
